A young chimpanzee is now finding a new life, and some new friends welcome him with open arms.
The Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue and Protection Organization, or LCRP, is a Liberia chimpanzee sanctuary and conservation center that cares for more than 40 chimpanzees under the age of five affected by the illegal bushmeat and pet trade.
A few months ago, they adopted a young chimpanzee named Beckley, who was left an orphan.Thankfully, the sanctuary took him in. The LCRP appreciated the young chimpanzee and planned to introduce him to the Little Bass Forest, a protected area where he could live with other chimpanzees.
The organization wrote on Facebook that Beckley was «close to the woods» and would likely fit in well in the new environment.
Beckley also had rescue chimpanzee friends who took him under their wing. The LCRP wrote that chimps Mary Beauty and Zacc bonded with Beckley, and when he began to cry Mary Beauty quickly calmed the young chimpanzee.
At last the day came when Beckley was ready to go to his new home in Little Bass.
All of these rescued chimpanzees have been left orphaned by cruel poachers, but it’s clear that no matter what, they depend on each other.
The LCRP writes that the chimpanzees will now be able to “thrive with others in a natural and safe environment.”
In addition, some chimpanzees are also taken from their habitats to be sold as pets, which also leaves their babies orphaned.
“Chimpanzees are not and should not be pets or forced to live with humans,” the group wrote.
What these chimpanzees went through in life is heartbreaking, but we are glad that they are saved and can now live with each other in a safe environment.
