The shepherd was walking past the swamp and saw movement: an elephant was almost completely stuck in the bog.

Once, a Kenyan shepherd, on his way to his flock and passing by a swamp near the dam, accidentally noticed unusual movement on one of the mounds. Upon closer inspection, he realized it was an elephant that was almost completely submerged in the mud of the marsh.

This mud swamp had formed near the dam relatively recently after the rainy season. Apparently, the elephant was following its usual path to the grazing area and didn’t notice how the dangerous mire began to engulf it.

From a distance, the elephant was almost invisible as the mud covered it entirely. As it tried to free itself, it kept sinking deeper and deeper.

«I couldn’t believe my eyes at first when I saw the movement on the mound. But when I realized it was an elephant, I immediately rushed to help. It was already on the brink,» the shepherd later recalled.

Of course, the shepherd couldn’t pull such a huge animal out on his own. He quickly threw a large log to the elephant, which it grabbed with its trunk, and immediately called a team of rangers for assistance.

Rescuing the elephant with the help of ropes and machinery took most of the day. After the successful rescue, the animal was offered water to drink and then released. Undoubtedly, in the future, this elephant will behave much more cautiously.
